UP CLOSE UP AND PERSONAL WITH DARYL HART

Tell us about yourself.  

I started in IT, mounting tapes and loading record platter disk drives as an operator way too long ago and have held a myriad of roles at a few places before ending up at Vocus.  

I have been married for over 30 years (you only get 20 years for murder a mate pointed out) and have a daughter who knows when she is on a good thing, so the 3 of us have lived in Strathfield since 2001.  

My wife’s job took us to the US for a couple of years where we lived in the heart of Silicon Valley and we loved every minute, so much so that we went back to visit regularly – that’s until covid curtailed the travelling we enjoy.  

I enjoy most sports and follow a few closely without going nuts about them. I enjoy eating out and going to the movies as often as practical. I have an interest in horse racing and have owned tiny percentages of a few over the years with mates for fun. In fact, we just bought half of a hoof of one recently that we hope to race early in the new year. I’m also happy to go fishing with mates and while we rarely catch anything around Sydney we sit for hours and chat, which is the real reason we do it.  

How long you have been with Vocus/Talentplicity? 

Joined Vocus and Talentplicity a little over 18 months ago 

What do you love about your job? 

Easily the people. All of whom are friendly and trying to do the best thing despite the occasional wall they bang into. Everyone throws in to help everyone else and that forms the basis of our successful team 

What is a hobby or pastime that you enjoy? 

What takes up much of my time is tennis. I usually play at least twice a week, but I am also on the club board.  There is always a match to play or a meeting to attend because I play interclub and social comps. It does keep me busy and out in the fresh air but most importantly it is very social and keeps you connected with friends. In theory it is supposed to keep me fit… perhaps not so much. 

What is your favourite recipe/dish?  

I am more into cuisines than specific dishes. I like a good Chinese meal but am willing to try anything and enjoy Indian and Southeast Asian. I regularly go to the fish markets as I have a weakness for prawns though I am pathetic at peeling them (no idea why as they seem to come out mangled when I try so that job falls to my very tolerant wife usually). I also have a weakness for pavlovas.
